MOBAs have become the gaming rage all around the world. MOBAs have existed since the late 80’s and have since then changed in their design, the method of playing, and most of all their popularity. Nowadays, there are multiple MOBAs that are being played all around the world, and often some are more popular in one region as compared to another. MOBAs are also very popular with streamers. League of Legend competitions attracts a lot of traffic on streaming websites such as Twitch. Furthermore, the popularity of MOBAs is constantly rising all around the world since they do not require expensive consoles for playing them. The popularity of MOBAs varies with different regions. For example, League of Legends is very popular in Europe and America, but not so much in Asia. The popularity of every game varies, and this can be witnessed elaborately in China.

China has a huge MOBA market. Its mobile based MOBA game called Arena of Valor currently has 200 million registered users in its native country, with 80 million of them playing daily. Tencent’s MOBA game is far more popular in one country than League of Legends is all around the world. The game’s owners have launched it online in hope of international success as well, and it currently has over 2 million downloads in Europe. Other MOBA games like DOTA and LoL are highly popular in Asia as well, where they are enjoyed by a plethora of people on streams as well.
Despite their already huge popularity, MOBAs are becoming even more famous in America and are expanding to even more countries and individuals. Although the US might have a smaller percentage of people playing MOBA games as compared to other countries, the potential in the US for them is endless. An estimated 83% of US households have computers, and with the extreme flexibility, MOBAs have when it comes to specifications, they can work on a variety of computers. Therefore, developers are trying to tap into the US market, as exemplified by China’s first foray into it. Expect many more MOBA games to pop up soon since developers will try their best to have every computer owning household playing their games.
